Female Australian Kelpie/Border Collie aged 9 years.

Louise is a 9-year-old black and tan Kelpie sweetheart who is affectionate, playful and gentle.

Even though she is an older kelpie, Louise possesses all the desirable traits of the breed such as intelligence, loyalty and devotion to her owner. Louise has started basic command training, travels well in the car and is gentle with treats. She has taken to dog bed training well and sleeps through the night without a peep. She has wonderful manners inside, settling quickly and respecting boundaries once established.

Louise is generally timid in new situations and requires a patient handler who will allow her time to adjust. With gentle guidance and praise, it doesn't take long for her confidence to shine through.

Louise has lovely manners when meeting new people. She does not tend to jump up, and will instead sit quietly to get a pat or a scratch on the belly. Louise is submissive and respects the needs of other dogs. It isn't long until she plays beautifully with others after she establishes that they are friendly. She is fine sharing sleeping areas and meals. Louise has not been tested with cats or chickens.

Louise is now looking for her perfect retirement home and would make a lovely offsider for someone in a rural area or surburbia. She loves nothing more than to potter around the garden with her people. Louise would thrive as a sibling to a friendly second dog, but also would also be ok on her own. Although she would be gentle with young children, her nature would be more suitable in a family with older kids, or empty nesters. Louise would benefit from ongoing training and enrichment activities in order to keep her stimulated.
